Willie Lee Edwards, age 86, of Elgin, passed away September 16, 2020 in Elgin. Willie was born August 3, 1934 in Grenada, Mississippi to his loving parents, Fred Lee Edwards and Edna Hill.
Willie served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1955-1959 during the Cold War.
He later worked for the Illinois Department of Human Services at Elgin Mental Health Center for over 30 years, working in various capacities, including the transportation department as a driver.
Loved ones will remember Willie as a man of few words, with a kind, gentle heart.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his life-long partner, Beverly Carr; sisters, Betty Anderson and Mattie McNair, and brother, Robert Edwards.
Willie is survived by his brothers, James A. Edwards and Eddie Russell Edwards; Aunt Annie Jones; nieces and nephews, Norman A. Edwards, Christopher S. Edwards, Joshua Edwards, Christopher Edwards, Jr., Ciara Edwards, and George McNair; and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be 10:00a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00a.m. Saturday September 26, 2020, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60120, Rev. Willie Tate officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd., Elgin IL 60120.
