My husband passed away the end of October. Of course, I was overwhelmed with what needed to be done and Daniel made it simple and easy. He walked us through all the decisions that needed to be made. Both he and Jennifer were so helpful. I cannot thank them enough for their compassion and caring. I will always be grateful.

The preparation for my dad’s viewing was a fearful moment for our family, however we knew in our hearts we needed that for closure. I cannot stress how amazing Dan and his team were with every lasting detail, from how peaceful and beautiful my dad looked to us, to the flowers which after nearly a week are full and just beautiful!

Had the pleasure of working with Daniel with the passing of our Dad. He was extremely patient, helpful and made sure that our Dad was taken care of. With the pandemic, he made sure we understood all the processes and kept us well informed. He answered every phone call, text message or email we sent and for that we were extremely thankful! Daniel was so helpful to our family during this terrible time. He explained what we should expect during each step of the process and answered all of our questions patiently. He was very responsive to our needs and always answered our calls and emails promptly. He was even able to accommodate some special requests that made my mother and niece feel more comfortable during the visitation.

I attended the funeral of John James Murphy on Jan 20, 2020. This day will always be in my heart, The day was humbling, emotional and full of love and respect. We were all brought together by a total stranger and left as family. I am sure John Murphy felt the love. I attended with my sister. Like everyone else we did not know what to expect. When we saw all the cars and lines of people it brought tears to our eyes. We talked with several service members, who were touched by the response of community. After paying our respects my sister said "lets move to the back". The only man (Dan) sitting in front row said "why, we are his family" We were honored to sit in front.

I came across this funeral home from a google search. My dad was in hospice care and I wanted to prepare myself for the inevitable. I call other places in town but I felt as they were cold and unsympathetic. Daniel took the time from that first phone call to explain the different options. When the time came and my father passed he came to the house and made us feel very comfortable in putting my father into his care. Arrangements were very smooth and thoughtful, His wife Joy did such an amazing job with his obituary. She really capture his life in so many words.

It took way too long to write this review, but I still feel my experience should be shared. When my mom passed away in 2018, I knew she wanted to be buried and not cremated. I wasn’t sure how I was going to afford a burial plus a memorial that I felt she deserved. Dan worked with me and didn’t make me feel ”less than” if I declined anything. They don’t play on your vulnerabilities during a hard time and that is appreciated. I also had special circumstances regarding my moms needs, which I was afraid would double the cost of the funeral, but he was able to find a special casket that I could afford. My grieving process was easier because of they way they took care of us.

My uncle unfortunately passed away from lung disease over a year ago. His financial after life situation wasn’t ideal and it was complicated for my family to handle his funeral arrangements. We thank God for sending us to Symonds-Madison Funeral Services who allowed us to lay him to rest peacefully and without financial burden. They are good people! One of Elgin’s best!
