Robert Larry Anderson (Bobby Hughes), age 75, of Harvey, IL, passed away on December 31, 2021. He was born January 1, 1946 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, James Glen and Frances Anderson.

Robert accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He sang in the choir. In his youth, he and his siblings could always be found at church. He was the ultimate “preacher’s kid,” always cleaning and helping around the church.

Robert attended John C. Haines Elementary School, Daniel H. Williams Public School, and Wendell Phillips Academy High School. He joined the United States Army in 1964 and served during the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged in 1967.

Robert worked in construction, and also did some work in science research and as an engineer intern. He was interested in drones. He lived his life his way.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Anderson-Hughes; father, James L. Glen; stepfather, Rev. Walter J. Hughes; daughter, Monica Anderson; son, Paul Anderson; and brother-in-law, Joseph Hayes, Sr.

He is survived by his siblings, Natalie Hughes-Hayes, Deborah (Jerry) Hughes-Barnett, Walter J. (Marlene) Hughes, Jr., Francine (Akima) Hughes-Collins, and Sharon Glen; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; the Redmond, Johnson, Harris, Young, and Myles families; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service with full military honors was held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421. Pastor Donna Steele-Hughes officiated.
