Richard Nass, age 92, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Heritage Manor Elgin. He was born in Elgin on June 16, 1923, the youngest of the seven children of the loving parents of Alfred and Ella (Cox) Nass.
Richard graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1941. Although medical challenges delayed his enlistment, they did not dampen his determination to serve his country in time of war. After undergoing medical care and healing, Richard was ultimately able to serve as a surgical technician in the post-war era with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1946.
He retired from Shakeproof of Elgin after more than twenty years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed the solitude of walks outdoors and finding treasures along the way. He also was an avid collector of clocks. Known for his incredible memory, Richard could impress family and friends when he recalled facts from years gone by.
Richard was preceded in death by his sisters Emeline Ross, Margaret Ross, and Dorothy Turner, and brothers Alfred (known as Jim), Chuck and Floyd.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Nass, niece Robin Wilson, and nephews Bill Ross and Alan, Jim, Mike, Chuck, Al and Bob Nass.
