Ophelia Yemofofo Lartey, passed away on September 24, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL. She was born on April 9 1965 at Labadi Accra. She was 53 years. She was the fifth child of eight children born to the late Jacob Tetteh and Agnes Anyetei.
She attended Lawushua Middle School, and following graduation she attended City Business Commercial College in Ghana. Following college, she succesfully pursued a career as a trader with her late mother, Agnes
Ophelia met the love of her life, Abraham Lartey, at church. The two married on June 6, 1992, and shared 26 wonderful years of marriage. Together they were blessed with two dear children, Elizabeth and Moses Lartey.
Three years ago, their family emigrated to the United States of America to join her elder sister, Ivy Oppan. After settling in Algonquin, the family later moved to Elgin.
Loved ones will remember Ophelia as an angel sent from heaven who was a blessing to everyone. She was a warm, friendly, and easy-going person with a giving and generous heart. She always put others’ happiness ahead of her own. She was quiet, reserved, God-fearing and humble and very forgiven Her faith and the Bible was the central pivot around which her life revolved
In her free time, Ophelia enjoyed cooking, singing and dancing. Her family will never forget their journey to the USA and the precious final days they spent together with family in Ghana. She was also blessed to witness her grandson’s birth.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob Tetteh and Agnes Anyetei.
Ophelia is survived by her dear husband Abraham; loving children Elizabeth Larteley Lartey and Moses Nii Lartey; siblings, Ivy Oppan, Rosemond Tetteh, Jacob Tetteh, Phyllis Tetteh, Ruben Tetteh, Castro Tetteh, and Pollax Tetteh; grandchild Elroy Armani Elvins; aunt Stella Anyetei and uncle Emmanuel A. Anyetei; Cousins, Clement O. Queshi, Iris Anyetei, Evans Tage, and Paul A. Anyetei; and nieces and nephews, Josie O. Slaughter, Daisy James, Andrea Oppan, Anthony Oppan, Nicholas Lamotey, Nicolina Lamotey, Agnes Armah, Samuel Obeney, Clement Tetteh, Ruby Tetteh, Daniel Tetteh, Daniella Tetteh, Paudit Tetteh, Plaudit Tetteh, Pluckey Tetteh, Maurine Tetteh, Michael Tetteh, and Dorothy Tetteh.
Visitation will be 10:00a.m. until time of service at 10:30a.m. Saturday October 27, 2018 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60120. Interment to follow at Dundee Township Cemetery-East, 420 Dundee Avenue, East Dundee, IL.
