Leslie John Thomas, Jr., age 84, of Elgin, IL, passed away on August 22, 2021. He was born November 18, 1936 in Milan, TN to his loving parents, Ellen (née Clark) and Leslie John Thomas, Sr.

Leslie met the love of his life, Helen “Peggy” Holder, while playing cards with mutual friends. They were married for 38 wonderful years.

He attended the Milan Training School in Tennessee, and worked as an activity coordinator at the Chicago Park District.

Leslie was a fun-loving man with a heart of gold. He would gladly give the shirt off his back if it would help someone in need. He wanted people to get along with each other, regardless of skin color.

He loved music and singing, and enjoyed recording songs and movies. He also dearly loved the Lord, and enjoyed singing and praising Him in church. He would feel the song as he sang, and he loved every song!

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie Thomas and Floyd Thomas; and two sisters, Mildred Dixon and Hazel Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Helen “Peggy” Thomas; daughter, Tracy Thomas; son, Darren Thomas; stepson, Julius Holder; grandchildren, Kiarah Thomas and Kumari Thomas; sisters-in-law, Shirley Nichlson, Mary Allen, and Wanda Taylor; brothers-in-law, Roland Holder and Ricky McKinney; cousins, Artie Mae Newbill and Dorothy Clark; and a host of nieces and nephews.

To my husband~
Thinking about you and the gift you are in my life gives me so many reasons to thank the Lord. Your heart for family, your heart for Him, your hard work, your encouragement; you make life better. Today is about you and who God made you to be — the wonderful man I am so, so thankful to call mine. Rest in peace, dear. I will love you always.
Love, Peggy
