Gregory “Greg” J. Moats, 69, of Carpentersville, Illinois entered into eternal rest on March 30, 2020, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois.

Greg, a devout Roman Catholic, was born May 19, 1950 to the late Eugene and Rita Moats, from Chicago, Illinois. Greg attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and obtained his B.A. in Psychology.

Greg started his career at the Service Employees International Union “SEIU” Local 25 (Local 25 SEIU later merged with Local 1 SEIU) as a Business Agent and later served as Vice-President of the Union alongside the President of the Union at the time who was his father Eugene. Greg, working for the Service Employees International Union Local 25 which originally started in the 1900s in Chicago, Illinois, advocated for millions of SEIU members and retirees. Greg helped and fought for SEIU members, many of whom were janitors and service industry workers for higher wages, healthcare, job security, and SEIU backed retirement pensions so that SEIU workers could take care of their families.

Greg later went on to become Vice-President and managing owner of Fetlas Trading Co., in Valparaiso Indiana, in which the store sold a wide variety of goods such as guns, boats, fishing supplies, go-karts, safes, outdoors goods, and hunting supplies. Greg later became a health insurance agent for US Health Advisors.

Greg was an outdoorsman who enjoyed nature walks and hikes.  He also enjoyed fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike up in Northern Wisconsin. Greg was an athlete who loved to play softball, volleyball and weightlifting. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Greg was overjoyed to finally see his team win the world series in 2016.

Greg was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who gave him the most joy in life. Greg had a big heart, and he was a very funny man who could light up the room with his jokes personality and smile. Greg was loved by many friends and family, will be greatly missed, and is irreplaceable.

Greg was predeceased by his loving parents Rita and Eugene, his sister Mary Moats, and brother-in-law Frank Thompson.

Greg was a loving brother and is survived by his sisters Laura (George) Guderley and Karen Thompson. Greg was a devoted and loving father grandfather and uncle who dedicated his life to his children and grandchildren.

Greg will be greatly missed by his children: Colleen (Joe) Buschbacher, Frank (Charlene), Sarah (Wade) Grillot, Gavin, and Melissa; grandchildren, Ellie, Peyton, Maci, Pyper, Wayland, Wyatt, Jameson, Sawyer, Frankie, Valentino; nieces and nephews, Steven Guderley, Jack Thompson, Rita Thompson, Philip Guderley, Calum Bashford, Genevieve Bashford.

A funeral mass service will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Huntley, Illinois and will be announced at a later date.
