Roy Edward Rybakowski, affectionately known as “Uncle Roy,” passed away peacefully in his McHenry, IL home on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the age of 63. Born to Stella Rybacki Linne and John Rybakowski on December 11, 1961 in Elgin, IL, Roy was a cherished son and the self-proclaimed “baby boy” of the family.

A dedicated tradesman, Roy devoted 24 years to Altmann Drywall & Painting Contractor, earning respect for his craftsmanship and work ethic. Beyond his profession, Roy’s heart belonged to his canine companions, Noodles and Buster Brown. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him. An avid fisherman, he found serenity casting lines into the Fox River, often accompanied by family and friends.

Roy’s vibrant personality was unmistakable. With his signature long hair and bandana, he was a free spirit who lived life on his terms. A devoted fan of Van Halen and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Roy’s 1972 Mercury Cougar was a testament to his love for classic rock and timeless cars. His adventurous spirit was evident in tales of “smoking doobies before they were legal,” capturing his zest for life and penchant for fun.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his siblings, Gary Rybakowski, Gwen (Jesse) Flores, and Robert (Lora) Rybakowski. He was the beloved uncle to Michele, Renee (Nick), JJ (Molly), Leah, Robby (Meghan), and Adam. His legacy continues through his great-nieces and nephews, Hadley, Carter, Hayes, and Cameron. To his nieces and nephews, “Uncle Roy” was the epitome of cool, always ready to spoil them and share in their joys.

A memorial will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, March 21, 2025, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Family and friends are invited to come celebrate Roy’s life, sharing stories and memories of a man who was truly one of a kind.

Interment will be private.

In honor of Roy’s love for animals, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a local animal shelter or rescue organization. Roy’s spirit, love, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
