Rosie Maria Vega, age 67, of Elgin, IL, passed away on October 1, 2024. She was born January 9, 1957 in Dilley, TX to her loving parents, Refugio and Katherine (née Castillo) Olivas.

Rosie and her husband, Lionso Vega Sr., were married for 49 years before his passing in 2021; they were together more than half their lives. She was a loving homemaker, caring for her children, grandchildren, and any lost soul that crossed her path. She was always ready to take care of anyone who was sick and in need of care. She stepped in to take care of her son Lionso Vega Jr.'s children after he passed in 2011.

Rosie believed that God and prayer could change the world if you opened your heart, and she practiced it daily. She was generous with her money, time, and prayers and never turned her back on anyone. She was “Mom” to all of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends.

Rosie was an amazing cook, and she enjoyed making large meals so that all her family could come spend time together. She loved picking out the perfect gift to bring joy to the recipient. She was a voracious reader, and she enjoyed spoiling her beloved dogs, Levi and Pancho.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Hernandez and Patricia Scheffic; husband, Lionso Vega Sr.; son, Lionso Vega Jr.; and grandson, Jordan M. Vega.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Patricia) Vega, Saul (Laura) Vega, Jessica Vega, Amanda Vega, Diego Vega, Katrina Vega, and Arturo Vega; siblings, Antonio Olivas, Marcus Olivas, Angelita Olivas, Refugio Olivas, Caroline Chase, and Catherine Gonzales; grandchildren, Lionso Vega 3rd, Xavier Vega, Zacharias Vega, Louis Vega, Emma Vega, Steven Vega, Emily Vega, Jasmine Vega, Benjamin Vega, Abel Martinez, Madeline Vega, Malachi Perez, Jesse Vega, and Alejandro Santoyo; and many nieces and nephews in Washington, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Mexico.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with funeral service at 7:30pm, Friday, October 4, 2024, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Pastor Victor Aghadi will be officiating.

Visitation will continue from 11:00am to 12:00pm, Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1001 Villa Street, Elgin, IL 60120.
