Randolph Lee Hopp, age 73, of Elgin, IL, passed away on February 25, 2025. He was born July 2, 1951 in Elgin, IL to his loving parents, LeRoy and Nola (née Halliday) Hopp.
Randy graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1969, where he was part of the Cross Country Track team and the E-Club. He went on to study Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In 2009, Randy was elected to the Gail Borden Library Board of Trustees, where he served one term. He attended every meeting and always shared his opinions. Randy spent many hours at the library reading, surfing the internet, and continuing to learn. He also participated in local government meetings, offering his views to help improve the community.
Randy’s parents ran Hopps Camps for 18 years on Wollaston Lake in Saskatchewan, Canada, and Randy helped with the campgrounds. As a child, he also took part in the Hiawatha Pageant, an event his parents volunteered to help put on.
Although Randy faced his own personal challenges, which at times influenced his interactions with others, those who took the time to understand him recognized the complexity of his own inner struggles.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Nola Mae Hopp. He is survived by his friends, Phil, Daniel, and Joy.
Visitation will be 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, March 10, 2025, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm, Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
