Michael O. Mizanin Sr.

Michael O. Mizanin Sr., age 74, of Elgin, IL, passed away on August 27, 2022.  He was born August 10, 1948 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, Michael T. and Grace (née Mortimer) Mizanin.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Science at Loyola University in 1969, and earned a Masters in Business Administration at University of Michigan in 1971.  He became Chief Financial Officer for Graycor Construction, Chicago, working there for 38 years.  Michael was a very hard worker, and he enjoyed working in a supervisory role.

Michael married Theresa Pecina in 1968, and they were together for 39 years before her passing in 2007.  He later met and married Peggy Brakhage.

Michael was the man that you wanted to invite to your poker game.  He enjoyed motivating others with the phrase, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life."  He cared about and helped those who were less fortunate and in need.

Michael was the proud grandfather of eight.  He enjoyed Super Bowl celebrations, and holidays with family, especially Fourth of July and Halloween.

Michael was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Mizanin; parents, Michael T. and Grace Mizanin; and sisters, Joyce Yeager and Janice Mizanin.  He is survived by his children, Michael, Matthew, Marcus, and Lucas Mizanin, and Angela Murphy; sister, Midge Holub; and grandchildren, Ashlynne, Emmett, Owen, Alyson, Michael, Dylan, Jenna, and Mitchell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00pm, Friday, September 16, 2022 at Hollywood Casino, 1 W. New York Street, Aurora, IL 60506.

Interment will be private.
