Maria Cristina Perez Hernandez, age 49, of Elgin, IL, passed away on July 16, 2026.

One such thread was Maria Cristina,  born on May 15, 1977, in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico. A resilient soul, Maria Cristina was a beacon of light in the lives of many. Her unyielding spirit and unwavering ambition etched an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate to cross paths with her. 

Maria Cristina, a respected hair stylist, turned her passion into a thriving business in Elgin, Illinois. Her salon was not just a place of business, but a sanctuary of warmth and welcoming. But what truly set Maria Cristina apart was her ability to blend humor, thoughtfulness, and a strong will in equal measures. It was a testament to her innate ability to always look out for others. Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, and 10:30am to 12:00pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Mass will be at 12:30pm, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 270 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Interment to follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
