Leon Maxwell, age 68, of Elgin, IL, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on September 27, 2022.  He was born February 3, 1954 in Gould, AR to his loving parents, Robert Benjamin and Alice (née Thompson) Maxwell.

Leon, a machine operator, was a very trustworthy and hardworking man.  He had a great sense of humor with a contagious laugh!

Leon enjoyed fishing, earning the nickname "Fish," and also liked listening to music, and watching sci-fi and horror movies.  He was also a huge San Francisco 49ers fan.  He loved to cook and barbecue on his Weber grill, and did so for family and friends almost every weekend.  He even loved to barbecue on New Year's Eve.

Loved ones will remember Leon for his friendly, kind, and loving personality.  He was a wonderful husband and father and adored his family very much.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Maxwell, Arthur Lee Maxwell, Clifton Maxwell, Vernon Maxwell, and William Maxwell; and sisters, Ozell Jackson and Alice Harnett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kathy Maxwell; children, Stephanie Lynn Maxwell of Elgin, IL, and Andrew Maxwell and Maryann Maxwell, both of Biscoe, AR; sister, Ann (James) West of Hayti, MO; and brothers, Robert L. (Brenda) Maxwell of Elgin, IL; and Kumkale Maxwell and Robert B. (Ann) Maxwell III, both of Little Rock, AR.

Visitation will be 1:00pm to 5:00pm, with funeral service at 3:30pm, Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.  Elder William Maxwell will be officiating.
