Herbert Rogers “Chico” Lemon Sr, age 82, of Elgin, IL, passed away on July 12, 2024. He was born April 7, 1942 in Chicago, IL to his loving mother, Mabel Lemon.

Herbert graduated from Shakespeare Elementary School and continued on to Hyde Park High School. He later worked at Joe’s Meat Market on 47th and Kenwood (Lake Park). He trained to become a butcher.

After struggling in Chicago to find himself, Chico moved to Elgin, around 1996, where he became Herbert again; a move that changed his life. He became an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, including serving as treasurer for several groups. He provided service to his community, and made it his life’s mission to save those who needed to be saved.

Through his journey in the twelve step program, his spirituality awakened. This led him to become a part of the West Ridge Community Church community, where his presence is felt.

Herbert was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Lemon; sons, Tyris Jackson and Herbert Lemon Jr; and sister, Delfanita “Penny” Lemon. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Cordelia Lemon; children, Cheryse (Stephen) Howard, Kim (Tommy) Roberts, Violet (Michael) Ariyo, Darrell Easter, Derrick Easter, Tiffany (Seneca) Hurd, and Chikita (Todd) Whitehead; siblings, Earl (Joyce) Lemon, Tysha (Ronnie) White, and Tyris (Pamela) Lemon; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 11:00am, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at West Ridge Community Church, 3300 Encounter Lane, Elgin, IL 60124. Pastor Darren Sloniger will be officiating.

Interment will take place at 1:00pm, Monday, July 29, 2024 at Burr Oak Cemetery, 4400 W. 127th Street, Alsip, IL 60803.
