Freda McCormack, age 93, of Steamwood, IL, was received into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. She was born December 31, 1931, in Kenosha, WI, a twin daughter to Fred and Ella (née Kark) Potthast. She was made a child of God and an heir of everlasting life on February 21, 1932, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Fourteen years later, on June 2, 1946, Freda was confirmed in her faith, also at St. Luke. Her memory verse was Psalm 33:4, “The Word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.”

After attending Kenosha Bradford High School, Freda worked for a time at the Simmons Plant on the lakefront. She married Earl L. McCormack on June 10, 1956, at St. Luke. They lived a busy and wonderful life together, living in the same home in Streamwood, IL, since 1972. Often, they rode off to work on Earl’s motorcycle, golfed, camped, tried snow and water skiing, played cards with friends, and took several trips, including a memorable cruise that took them through the Panama Canal.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents; stepmom, Lorain Potthast; in-laws, H.B. and Ethel McCormack; twin sister, Erna Hough; and other relatives and friends. She is survived by her brother, Fritz (Marilyn) Potthast of Mishawaka, IN; half-brother, Donald (Kathleen) Potthast of Brillion, WI; several nieces and nephews; and caring friends, neighbors, and church family.

Both Freda and Earl were longtime members of Abiding Peace Lutheran Church (WELS) of Elgin, IL. The soul of Freda McCormack is now in heaven. Her earthly remains will be buried at Bluff City Cemetery. There they will await the great and glorious Last Day, when Christ will come again in glory, when all the dead will be raised and all believers will receive perfect, glorified bodies like that of their resurrected Savior.

And then Jesus will say to all who believe, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” Thanks be to God for the gift of his Son Jesus, and for sustaining Freda’s faith unto death! To God alone be the glory!

Visitation will be 10:30am until funeral service at 11:30am, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Abiding Peace Lutheran Church, 9N976 Randall Road, Elgin, IL 60123. Pastor Caleb Klatt will be officiating.

Interment to follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
