Fred Gomez Obituary

Fred Gomez, age 60, of Elgin, passed away on May 28, 2025. He was born July 2, 1964 on Whiteman Air force Base, MO to his loving parents, Alfredo and Inez Castillo (née) Gomez.

A 1983 graduate of Plainfield High School, Fred went on to study at North Central College in Minnesota, where he cultivated his passion for music and education. He would later meet the love of his life, Maria, while seeking treatment at the ophthalmology department of the University of Illinois where she worked. Their bond grew strong, rooted in faith and shared values, leading to 20 beautiful years of marriage.

Fred served as a marching band teacher and supervisor, inspiring countless students with his dedication and joyful spirit. His love for music extended far beyond the classroom — he was a lifelong trumpet and keyboard player, a heartfelt singer, and a faithful volunteer in his church band.

Deeply committed to his faith, Fred founded the Christian band PUSH (Pray Until Something Happens). Through this ministry, he brought gospel music and the message of hope to churches and events throughout Elgin, as well as communities in Wisconsin. His mission was simple yet powerful: to reach non-believers and encourage them through the universal language of music.

Fred also served his community in other heartfelt ways — playing the trumpet at funerals to honor veterans, recording CDs to share his music, and teaching his grandchildren about the joy and discipline of music. He extended his talents to radio as well, working with WRMN 1410AM, where his voice and vision reached many more.

A man of deep faith, unwavering love, and musical passion, Fred devoted his life to serving others through music, ministry, and mentorship. He will be remembered for his loyalty, kindness, and unconditional love. He was a devoted husband, caring father and stepfather, proud grandfather, loving son and brother, and a steadfast friend to many.

Fred's life was a song of praise, perseverance, and purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of love and music that will echo for generations.

Fred is survived by his wife Maria Gonzalez Gomez; children, Nicholas, Jordan, Angel, Luis, and Vanessa; parents, Alfredo and Inez Gomez; sisters, Monica, Melanie, and Melissa; grandchildren, Arianna, Victoria, Persephonie, Lilliana, and Oliver; brothers-in-law, Gil Aguilar, Waylon Daniels, and Juan, Javier, and Jose Luis Pedraza; and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Gomez.

Interment will be private.
