David Carl Granger

David Carl Granger, age 64, of Elgin, IL, passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 9, 2023 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL. He was born on April 8, 1959 in Atchison, KS to his loving parents, Derril and Carol (née Jackson) Granger. Dave graduated from Iowa State University in 1981.

Dave pursued a career in music that began with his Aunt Betty teaching him how to play guitar as a teenager.  He began writing songs and performing publicly while at Iowa State.  In 1983, Dave met Scott Anderson and they formed the acoustic rock duo, Cirrus Falcon.  Over the years, Dave and Scott played across the Midwest, entertaining audiences with both classic covers and original music.

It was through his music that Dave met his wife D’Ann at a show in 1987. They married in 1995, and have two children, Matthew and Erin.

In addition to his passion for music, Dave was also an incredibly dedicated sports fan. Dave’s two favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Browns. He loved attending Cubs games at Wrigley Field with his friends and family, but even when he couldn’t make it in person, he was more than happy to watch on T.V. or listen on the radio. One of the sports highlights of Dave’s life was watching the Cubs win the World Series.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Derril and Carol; his older brother, Michael Granger; and a number of close friends who were dear to him.

He is survived by his wife, D'Ann;  his children, Matthew and Erin; his younger brother, Mark (Jeri) Granger; his mother-in-law, Karen Rice; sister-in-law, Ann Grange; brothers-in-law, Chad (Nikalina) Radke and Jason Radke; his close friend and brother in music, Scott Anderson; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as much-loved dog and cat, Pumpkin and Franklin.

Dave’s family would like to thank the fans and friends that enjoyed his music over the years, and the musicians who shared the stage with him.

Please join us in celebrating Dave’s life. A memorial will be held from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Mass will be held at 10:30am, Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Mary Church of Elgin, 400 Fulton Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Fr. Bruce Ludeke will be officiating.

Interment will be private.
