William & LaVerne Becker Obituary

William C. Becker passed away on June 29, 1998 at 80 years old, and his beloved wife, LaVerne Anna Becker (née Davidson) passed away 17 years later on July 23, 2015 at 93 years of age.  William was born May 24, 1918, and LaVerne was born on June 2, 1922, both in Chicago, IL.

William joined the United States Army in September, 1941, and served honorably during WWII before being discharged in October, 1945.  He earned the American Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Ribbon with five Bronze Stars; a Distinguished Unit Badge, a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal, and a Bronze Arrowhead Medal.

William worked for RR Donnelley & Sons Co., in Chicago, and LaVerne worked as a food service manager at St. Paul Lutheran School.  They were married for 53 years.

William enjoyed all sports, bowling, fishing, playing cards, listening to music, and dancing.  LaVerne enjoyed bowling and playing cards, as well, and also crocheting and reading.

William was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Becker and Katherina (née Burger) Bieber; brother, Nicholas Bieber; and sister, Katherine (née Becker) Bernas.  LaVerne was preceded in death by William; son, Robert A. Becker; brothers, Andrew A. Davidson and William A. Davidson; and sister Dorothy A. Moeller.

They are survived by their children, William C. Becker, Catherine A. Becker, and Susan E. Friedman; grandchildren, Daniel (Stephanie), Michael (Melody), and Katrina (Gene); great-grandchildren, Lucas William, Eleanora Grace, Lea Catherine, Andrea Elizabeth, and Beatrix Ann; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service, with full military honors for William, will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, November 7, 2022 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421.
