With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sandra L. Olson, age 74, of Elgin, IL, on January 9, 2025. Born on March 15, 1950, in Chicago, IL, to Frank and Margaret (née Frye) Rogala, who predeceased her, Sandra is survived by her two brothers, Larry Rogala and Phillip Rogala; her children, Kim (George) Olson and Matt (lu) Olson; and grandchildren, Nathan, Tylor, Jason, Sofia, and Vera, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Sandra was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, loving aunt, and cherished sister. Sandra's greatest joy was her family, and she found immense pride in being a mother and grandmother.
Sandra had a love for life’s simple pleasures. She was a lifelong Cubs fan, and at the age of 73, she had the thrill of attending her very first in-person Cubs game—a memory she treasured. She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, especially those played by her loved ones, always cheering them on with enthusiasm. Another cherished tradition for Sandra was going out for breakfast with her family—those mornings, filled with conversation and laughter, were moments she truly treasured.
Music also held a special place in Sandra’s heart. She loved attending concerts, particularly Neil Diamond, and especially when shared with her family. Sandra's sense of humor was infectious, and her quick wit and ability to make others laugh made her a joy to be around. She often reminisced about the cherished times spent in Michigan with her cousins, and those memories were a source of warmth and comfort in her life.
Sandra was also a fierce fighter. For 10 years, she courageously battled breast cancer, defying all odds with her determination and strength. She underwent experimental treatments and faced each challenge with remarkable resilience, always holding onto hope and inspiring everyone around her. Her battle with cancer was a testament to her courage, and her family takes comfort in knowing she fought this long, hard fight with grace and dignity.
A deeply faithful woman, Sandra was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. Her faith was an integral part of who she was—nurturing, compassionate, and always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
Sandra leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, strength, and devotion. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by her kindness, her humor, and her unshakable spirit.
