Vietnam War veteran Robert P. Genenz, age 80, of Elk Grove Village, IL, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2023 at the Grove of Fox Valley in Aurora, IL. He was born May 16, 1943 in Evanston, IL to his loving parents, Harry and Catherine (née Bruck) Genenz.
Robert attended Evanston Township High School, where he played football and secured a four-year football scholarship to Tulane University. Upon graduating from Tulane, he joined the United States Army, where his career spanned over 20 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a proud veteran; his love for his Country and Fellow Military Brothers will last forever. Outside of his Military career, Robert spent his professional career working at Oscar Mayer & Borden Foods.
Robert is survived by his three children whom he loved dearly, Kimberly (Russ) Menczywor, Matthew (Tera) Genenz, and Colleen (Keith) Kowalczyk; and his six beautiful grandchildren that he adored, Samantha, McKenna, Justin, Corynn, Kyle, and Caden. He is also survived by his loving brother, Ronald (Marlene) Genenz, his nieces and nephews, and his adored cousins, Sylvia Thompson and Lillian Norton.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at The Grove of Fox Valley for the love and care they showed Robert during his stay. Also, a sincere thank you to Suncrest Hospice for the care and compassion they showed toward Robert and his entire family during his time there. They are forever grateful.
Visitation will be 5:00pm until funeral service with full military honors at 8:00pm, Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.
