Odie Mae Perry, age 78, of Elgin, IL, passed away on June 13, 2025. She was born August 28, 1946 in Parkin, AR to her loving parents, Eugene and Geneva (née Johns) Hinton.
Odie graduated from Central High School in Parkin, Class of 1964. In 1968, she moved to Chicago, IL, and two years later, she moved to Elgin, where she raised her three children, whom she adored. She worked at the Lee Wards warehouse as an order clerk for about 25 years, and then at the Grand Victoria Casino for almost 10 years. She also worked at the Arden Courts. She was affiliated with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Odie was preceded in death by her parents; son, Darren Perry; and brothers, James Alderidge, Elmer Hinton, and Thomas Hinton. She is survived by her daughters, Sonia (Lisa) Williams of Belvidere, IL and Beverly Perry of Elgin, IL; grandchildren, Ashley (Rhys) Alioto, Brianna (Marquet) Leavy, Candace (Larry) Odediran, Camerin Martin, Garrett Perry, Javier Nunez, and Chris Martin; great-grandchildren, Mya Alioto, Joshua Odediran, Rhys Alioto Jr., Brooklynn Dyson, and Kayden Odediran; siblings, Bettye Henderson, Beverly Shaw, Gloria Hinton, Marvin Hinton, Lois Hinton, and Barry Hinton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends, including her best friend, Sally Lindsay.
Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 11:00am, Friday, June 20, 2025, at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, 1280 Summit Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Pastor Charles Ramsey will be officiating.
Interment to follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
