Mary Ellen McCarthy, age 92, of Hanover Park, IL, passed away on January 8, 2024. Mary was born January 13, 1931 in Peoria, IL to her loving parents, John and Mary (née Wilcox) McCarthy.

Mary was the President at the Southside Steel Foundry in Peoria. She raised her loving son Paul from the age of three.

Loved ones will remember her as loving, selfless and hardworking. She will be greatly missed by all who cared about her.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Robert McCarthy; sister Margaret Topping; and her brother, John McCarthy, Jr.

Mary is survived by her son, Paul Quevedo; grandchildren, Tommy Ray Quevedo, Carli Dawn Quevedo, and Hailey Ellen Quevedo; cousins, Mary Lennon, Carol Morse, and Barbara M.; and nieces and nephews, John Topping and Megan Taggart.

Visitation will be 10:00am to 12:00pm, Monday, January 22, 2024 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Mass will follow at 12:30pm at St. Mary Church of Elgin, 400 Fulton Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Interment to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 700 N. River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
