Martha Ann Kanning, age 94, of Elgin, IL, and formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on January 29, 2022. She was born March 20, 1927 in Bronx, NY to her loving parents, Frank and Martha (née Herald) Pandolfi.

Martha worked as a publications manager at IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. She met her husband, Robert, when they were kids in the Bronx. They wed after World War II in 1945, and were married for 76 years. They lived in Seattle, WA while he served the United States Coast Guard, then returned to New York after his honorable discharge.

Martha was an avid painter, and sold most of her work at local craft fairs. She loved collecting artist-created teddy bears, and eventually began making her own. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Kanning; and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Laraine (John) Davy; grandchildren, Meghan (Nick) Iwanski, Chris (Holly) Quinn, and Kelly (Kevin) Lawton; and great-grandchildren, Emma White, Makayla Quinn, Owen Quinn, Colin Lawton, and Sarah Lawton.

A memorial will be held from 2:00pm until funeral service at 3:30pm, Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Fr. “Ejay” Edil Jarapa will be officiating.

Mourners are encouraged to review the funeral home COVID-19 public health policies ahead of time.

Interment will be at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12602.
