Mark L. Jones, age 83, of Algonquin, IL, passed away on February 28, 2024. He was born May 4, 1940 in Freeport, IL to his loving parents, Clifford “Tippy” and Margaret (née Beecher) Jones.

Mark grew up in Elizabeth, IL, and graduated from Elizabeth High School, Class of 1958. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1958 to 1962 before being honorably discharged. In his civilian life, he was the owner of a small car dealership, and also had many other occupations, including police officer, volunteer fireman, EMT, to name a few.

Mark met his soulmate, Sandy, while he was stationed at Youngstown Air Force Base in Vienna, OH. Their love story was a fairytale romance. When he was stationed in England, they kept their courtship alive through numerous letters back and forth. After retiring from the Air Force and returning to the states, they married shortly thereafter, and they had 61 wonderful years together.

Mark enjoyed classic cars, and rooting for his favorite Chicago teams, the Cubs and the Bears. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, and his unwavering devotion to his family.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Sharon, who died shortly after birth. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Jones; children, Robin (Linda) Jones and Tod (Joanne) Jones; grandchildren, Patrick (Karli), Joey (Tayler), and Michael; great-grandchildren, Emma and Luca; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with military honors at 7:00pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Funeral service will be at 9:30am, Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Abiding Peace Lutheran Church, 9N976 Randall Road, Elgin, IL 60123. Pastor Caleb Klatt will be officiating. Visitation will continue after service, until 11:30am.

Interment to follow at approximately 2:00pm at Elizabeth City Cemetery, 3465 S. Apple River Road, Elizabeth, IL 61028. Pastor Mike Nesbit will be officiating at graveside.
