Marilynn Sue Krug

Marilynn Sue Krug, age 93, of Elgin, IL, passed away on August 14, 2023. She was born July 1, 1930 in Birmingham, AL to her loving parents, Shelby and Mae (née Hurtt) Boutwell.

Marilynn worked for the Schaumburg Park District for several years. One of the projects she was most proud of was the preschool program she founded for the Park District. Her love of animals led her to also start a dog grooming business. Later she became a school bus driver, driving for the Schaumburg school district for 10 years, and the for District U46 for 20 years.

Marilynn met and fell in love with Bill Witte while they were both working for the Park District. They were together for 47 wonderful years.

Marilynn was open and friendly, and very outgoing. She was very proud of her Southern roots, and was quite the Southern belle.

Marilynn loved antiques, old houses, and collectibles. She was a member of both the Gifford Park Association and ABODE, two organizations that honored and recognized historic homes in Elgin. She enjoyed going on house walks both in Elgin and in Savannah, GA whenever she could. She also enjoyed weekend trips.

Marilynn loved holidays and celebrations, anything that gave her chance to organize a party and decorate with her many wonderful and interesting collections. Halloween was her favorite! And while she enjoyed hosting often, she also enjoyed family celebrations on her daughter Kendall’s back porch. She adored her family.

Marilynn is survived by her beloved significant other, Bill Witte; children, Kary, Kyle, Kevin, and Kendall; grandchildren, Joe, Eric, and Danielle; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Nathaniel.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with funeral service at 7:00pm, Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Michael Murschel will be officiating.

Private interment will be at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
