Maria Raquel Lopez, age 67, of Elgin, IL, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 18, 1956 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to her loving parents, Antonio and Raquel Nieto.


Maria grew up in Elgin from the age of 12, where she developed a deep sense of compassion, and resilience. Maria's nurturing spirit and generous heart were evident from a young age, qualities that she carried throughout her life.


In 1975, Maria married William Lopez. Their loving partnership spanned over four decades, marked by mutual respect, unwavering support, and countless cherished memories. Together, they raised three children, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, faith, and love for family.


Maria was a devoted mother to her children, William Jr., Luis, and Maritza. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and was their steadfast supporter through all of life's challenges and triumphs. Her children remember her as a patient, kind, and encouraging figure who always put their needs before her own.


As a grandmother, Maria's joy knew no bounds. Her grandchildren, Nyasia, Julissa, Jeremiah, Alex, Jovaughn, Naiarah, Jaylene, and Juliana, were the light of her life. She delighted in their laughter, celebrated their milestones, and imparted wisdom that will guide them for years to come. Her home was always a place of warmth and welcome, where stories were shared, traditions upheld, and love was abundant.


She was a member of Puerta de Sion in Elgin for over two decades. Currently, she was an active parishioner of West Ridge Community Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort. Something she instilled in her children and grandchildren.


Those who knew Maria will remember her for her kindness, her infectious smile, her unwavering faith, her wonderful cooking, and sense of humor. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and loved. Her legacy of compassion and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.


Maria is survived by her children, William Jr. (Jenny), Luis (Jessica), and Maritza (Roy); her grandchildren, Jeremiah, Alex, Jovaughn, Naiarah, Jaylene, and Juliana ; her father, Antonio Nieto; her siblings, Ana (Antonio), Jose (Mariana), and Gabriela (Juan); her fur babies, Bear and Bella; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.


Maria Raquel Lopez will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.


Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Thursday, May 30, 2024, and will continue from 10:00am until funeral service at 11:30am, Friday, May 31, 2024 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Scott Alexander will be officiating.


Interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1001 Villa Street, Elgin, IL 60120.
