Maria E. Gutierrez, age 88, of Hampshire, passed away on July 21, 2023. Maria was born September 13, 1934 in Mexico to her loving parents, Soledad Camacho and Lorenzo Davalos.
Maria worked as a faithful housekeeper for St. Joseph Hospital for 35 years. She always enjoyed visiting the newborn babies while she was at work.
She met her first husband, Luis Luna Anguiano, in Mexico, and they were married seven years before he passed away. Together they had 4 loving children.
Maria met her second husband, Jose Luis Gutierrez, through his daughter, who she worked with. The two shared 25 years together before his passing.
Loved ones will remember Maria as a wonderful cook who was always in the kitchen.
Family was incredibly important to her, and at one point in time, she cared for each of her grandchildren.
She also enjoyed doing word searches and sitting outside on nice days.
Maria was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, and both her husbands, Luis Luna Anguiano and Jose Luis Gutierrez.
Maria is survived by her children, Juan Manuel (Maria) Luna, Carmen (Raul) Gallardo, José Luis (Hilda) Luna and Soledad (Alejandro) Picazo; her siblings, Angel Davalos, Maria Davalos, Juana Diaz, Ernesto Davalos, Linda Valtierra, and Maria Luisa Huizar; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:00pm - 9:00pm Tuesday August 1, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Visitation will continue 10:00am - 11:00am on Wednesday August 2, 2023 at the funeral home.
Funeral service will follow at 11:30am Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 225 Jewett Street, Elgin, IL 60123. Father Robert Camacho will be officiating.
