Larry James Thomson Obituary

Larry James Thomson, age 71, of South Elgin, IL, passed away on May 11, 2022. He was born March 6, 1951 in Yankton, SD to his loving parents, Harold and Katherine (née Kane) Thomson.


Larry was born and raised in South Dakota, and graduated from Huron Senior High, Class of 1970. He then moved around for a few years before settling in Illinois in 1985.


Larry worked at Armor Foods for 13 years, then at Hidden Valley Ranch for 28 years. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and building model cars.


Larry was very family oriented. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and attended as many of his grandchildren’s events as he was able.


Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Thomson; granddaughter, Ally Thomson; and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his children, Jim (Tiffany) Thomson and Jennifer (Joshua) McCarthy; sister, Barb Portzer; grandchildren, Austyn Soczewa, Anastazia Soczewa, Kelsea Thomson, and Conor Thomson; niece, Stephanie Perkins; and many cousins.


A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, 1185 W Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL 60067. Fr. Tom will be officiating. Following the service, the family is hosting a Celebration of Life open house until 10:00pm at 570 S. Collins Street, South Elgin, IL 60177. Food will be provided.
