Katherine Elizabeth Whitman, age 93, of South Elgin, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 7, 2025, at White Oaks of Heritage Woods. She was born October 81, 1931 in Chicago, IL to her loving parents, Cyril and Harriett (née Davis) Sturdy.

Katherine met and married her husband, Richard, and together they raised five children. The had a wonderful, loving marriage for many years his death in 2010.

Katherine will be remembered as a silly, fun-loving, and dedicated mother and grandmother. She especially loved traveling, caring for her cats, watching birds, cherishing time with friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Katherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Whitman; her parents, Cyril and Harriett Sturdy; her brothers, Harry Sturdy and Joseph Sturdy; and her grandson, Michael Bidgood. She is survived by her children, Susan Riedy, Steven Whitman, Sandra Truran, Shawn (James) Bernhardson, and Samantha (Steven) Cervenka; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue, St. Charles, IL 60174.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Katherine’s honor to Anderson Humane, 1000 S. La Fox Street, South Elgin, IL 60177.

Interment will be private.
