Katherine Marie Ludtke, age 81, of Streamwood, IL, passed away on February 25, 2026. She was born August 31, 1944 in Greensburg, PA to her loving parents, Edward and Elizabeth (née Long) Haas.
Katherine built a career as a property manager, a role she carried with confidence and resolve. She was known for her fearless spirit — famously the only person willing to stand up to local gang members in the neighborhoods she managed. They respected her, as did everyone who knew her. She possessed a rare blend of toughness and heart that left a lasting impression.
Katherine shared a remarkable 61-year marriage with her beloved husband, Emory. Their love story began when co-workers arranged their first date — a simple introduction that blossomed into a lifetime of partnership, loyalty, and devotion. Together they built a life grounded in commitment and shared strength.
Katherine was stubborn in the best possible way — determined, principled, and unafraid to speak her mind. She was also caring and thoughtful, always thinking of others before herself. Her sassy wit and spirited personality brought laughter and energy to those around her.
In her quieter moments, Katherine found joy in reading, hidden object computer games, crafting, sewing, crochet, and coloring. She created not only beautiful handmade items, but also countless memories through the love she poured into everything she did.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Emory Ludtke; children, Emory and Denise; sister, Barbara Trapp; grandchildren, Andrew, Derek, Ana, Corbin, Mary, and Laura; and great-grandchildren, Beckham and Braxton.
Interment will be private.
