Josefina Contreras Villagomez, de 77 años, residente de Elgin, Illinois, falleció el 31 de diciembre de 2025. Nació el 16 de noviembre de 1948 en México, hija de sus queridos padres, Manuel Contreras y Alejandra Alvarez.

Josefina y su esposo estuvieron casados ​​durante 60 años. Pasó la mayor parte de su vida en su amada patria, México, donde dedicó su fuerza y ​​empeño a construir una vida para su familia, trabajando incansablemente en su hogar y sus tierras. Sus manos moldearon su mundo, y su legado perdura en cada rincón de la vida que ayudó a crear.

Mujer de palabras sinceras y convicciones firmes, Josefina también irradiaba alegría. Llevaba felicidad a dondequiera que iba, especialmente en las celebraciones de cumpleaños, donde su espíritu juguetón se manifestaba plenamente. Cantaba, bailaba y hacía que todos se sintieran especiales. Sus propios cumpleaños eran motivo de gran alegría, sobre todo el de su 58º, cuando recibió, entre otros regalos, un collar hecho de billetes de dólar, y sonrió radiante de orgullo y felicidad, diciendo que había sido uno de los mejores días de su vida.

Josefina tenía un don especial para la costura. Le encantaba coser, bordar e hilar con esmero y creatividad. Sus seres queridos dibujaban flores y nombres en servilletas de tela, que ella luego transformaba, bordando y rellenando los diseños con hilos vibrantes y coloridos. Cada puntada contaba una historia, cada pieza guardaba un recuerdo.

A Josefina le sobreviven su esposo, J. Jesús Villagomez; sus hijos, Fernando, Javier, Elena, Manuel, Teresa, Ramón, Jesús e Ismael; sus padres, Alejandra Álvarez y Manuel Contreras; sus hermanos, Ramón, Margarita, Manuel, Trinidad, Gregorio, Alicia y Zenaida; y más de 30 nietos.

El velorio se llevará a cabo de 5:00 p. m. a 9:00 p. m. el martes 6 de enero de 2026 y de 11:00 a. m. a 12:30 p. m. el miércoles 7 de enero de 2026 en la funeraria Symonds-Madison, ubicada en 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Josefina Contreras Villagomez, age 77, of Elgin, IL, passed away on December 31, 2025. She was born November 16, 1948 in Guanajuato, Mexico to her loving parents, Manuel Contreras and Alejandra Alvarez.

Josefina and her husband we married for 60 years. She spent most of her life in her beloved homeland of Mexico, where she poured her strength and dedication into building a life for her family—working tirelessly on her own home and land. Her hands shaped her world, and her legacy is felt in every corner of the life she helped create.

A woman of straightforward words and strong convictions, Josefina was also full of light. She brought happiness wherever she went, especially during birthday celebrations, where her playful spirit truly came alive. She would sing, dance, and make everyone feel special. Her own birthdays were a particular joy—none more so than her 58th, when she received a necklace made of dollar bills among other gifts, and beamed with pride and happiness, calling it one of the best days of her life.

Josefina had a special gift for needlework. She loved sewing, stitching, and threading with care and creativity. Her loved ones would draw flowers and names on cloth napkins, which she would then bring to life—bordering and filling the designs with vibrant, colorful thread. Every stitch told a story, every piece held a memory.

She was a woman who found meaning in simplicity, strength in labor, and beauty in tradition. Her legacy is woven not only into the fabric she created, but into the hearts of all who loved her.

Josefina is survived by her husband, J. Jesus Villagomez; children, Fernando, Javier, Elena, Manuel, Teresa, Ramon, Jesus, and Ismael; parents, Alejandra Alvarez and Manuel Contreras; siblings, Ramon, Margarita, Manuel, Trinidad, Gregorio, Alicia, and Zenaida; and over 30 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and 11:00am to 12:30pm, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.
