Jerry Michael Cowsert, age 77, of Elgin, IL, passed away on June 25, 2023. He was born October 30, 1945 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, Leo and Margaret (née Schneeberger) Cowsert.

Jerry graduated from Daniel R. Cameron Public School in 1959, Tuley High School in 1963, and from Northern Illinois University in 1968. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army where he served two years in the Vietnam War, before being honorably discharged in 1970.

Jerry met his wife, Lois, at Wright Junior College in 1968. They were married for 55 years, and together raised three children.

Jerry worked as a Sears business manager for 34 years before retiring. He then enjoyed driving a school bus for Huntley School District 158 for three years.

Jerry enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing, and loved watching sports, especially if one of his favorite Chicago teams was playing. He was a lifetime member of both Watch City VFW #1307 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Loved ones will remember Jerry’s sense of humor, and his concern for others' well-being.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lois Cowsert; children, Michael Cowsert, Kristen (Bill) Stewart, and Amy (Jeff) Hoffman; grandchildren, Caden, Kelsey, Claire, Will, Ethan, Maya, Avery, and Addison; brothers, Tom and Dan Cowsert; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with funeral service and military honors at 7:00pm, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Michael Murschel will be officiating.

A private interment will be held later at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421.
