Jean Lorraine Goodwin, age 91, of Elgin, IL, passed away on October 2, 2022.  She was born July 19, 1931 in Peoria, IL to her loving mother, Maria Sofia Augusta Kania.

Jean met her husband, Jim, at Bond's Drug Store, where she worked during her junior and senior years of high school.  Bond's had a soda fountain that served delicious Luick ice cream.  They were married for 46 years.  They enjoyed motor trips, and traveled to almost all of the 48 contiguous United States.  She later traveled through the Panama Canal on a cruise organized by a local bank.

Jean was interested in everyone and everything.  She had a wonderful talent for writing.  Once, for a high school English assignment, she wrote an outstanding story that was so well done her teacher believed she copied it from a professional writer!

Jean, a graduate of Ellis Business College, worked as a secretary.  Her favorite position was with the golf course superintendents in St. Charles.  She was able to use her writing skills in their publications, and it also gave her the chance to travel to several states for conventions.  While visiting Washington DC, she was photographed with Richard Nixon (at the time, it was an honor!)

Jean volunteered at her church, which included being a greeter, reader, usher, on the card ministry, and being a member of the "Quilting Queens."  Jean had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for dressing in costume for "themed" monthly luncheons at church.  This created many laughs and good times.

Jean collected angel figurines.  She enjoyed playing board games, and had recently learned how to play mahjong.  She loved visiting relatives and friends.  She liked beef entrees, glazed donut holes, and especially liked chocolate cake and ice cream.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Goodwin; good friend, Maurice Munch; cousin/brother, Ivan Kamp; as well as her parents, aunts, uncles, and various cousins.  She is survived by her sister, Carol Stafford; and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 11:00am, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120.  Chaplain David Rohlwing will be officiating.  In honor of Jean's love of fun and outrageous hats, the family asks that you wear a hat to the service, the crazier the better!

Interment to follow at Dundee Township East Cemetery, 420 Dundee Avenue, East Dundee, IL 60118.
