Janet Mabel Mayes, age 87, of Elgin, IL, passed away on October 18, 2025. She was born January 27, 1938 in Elgin, IL to her loving parents, Harry and Mabel (née Heimsoth) Fritz.

Janet graduated from Elgin High School in 1956. Soon after, she began her most treasured role: homemaker and heart of her family. She shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Robert—a lifelong partnership grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Janet cared about her family more than anything. Her warmth, kindness, and thoughtfulness were constants in the lives of those who knew her. She had a special talent for making handmade greeting cards, each one a small act of love and creativity that brought joy to many.

A child at heart, Janet had a fondness for frogs, Mickey Mouse, and Winnie the Pooh—symbols of the whimsy and gentle spirit that defined her.

She will be remembered for her generous heart, quiet strength, and the joy she brought into everyday life. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; sons, John and Kenny Mayes; brother, Harry Ronald Fritz; and grandson Jacob Mayes. She is survived by her husband, Robert Mayes; daughter-in-law, Janet (late John) Mayes; grandchildren, Julianne and Sarabeth Mayes; and great-grandson, Stanley Palomino.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Pastor Andrea Delaney will be officiating.

Interment will be private.
