James Mosby, age 86, of Elgin, IL, passed away on August 7, 2024. He was born February 20, 1938 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, Preston and Amelia (née Kleker) Mosby.

Jim served in the United States Coast Guard from 1956 to 1958 before being honorably discharged. He worked as an electrical engineer until retirement.

Jim and his wife, Lynda, were married for 20 years.

Jim was quite the jokester. He was a regular volunteer at the Amvets Lee Barrett Memorial Post 202, American Legion Post 57, and the Natures Villa Campground. He enjoyed golfing, and riding his golf cart. He loved cheering for his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs.

Jim often enjoyed just sitting on his rocking chair on the porch. A funny memory often shared is of when he was watching the neighbor’s dog. They were sitting on the porch when Jim noticed a mouse running around. He chased it with the only thing he could find, a kitchen spatula, while the dog just watched!

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John “Jack” Preston Mosby; and stepdaughter, Wendy Jones Reinberger. He is survived by his wife, Lynda Mosby; daughters, Michelle Mosby of Elgin, IL, Adrienne (David) Bansemer of Valparaiso, IN, and Sarabeth Mayes of Elgin, IL; grandchildren, Courtney, Julian, Preston, Luke, Keith, and Christian; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with funeral service and military honors at 7:00pm, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Vicar Andrea Mohr Delaney will be officiating.

Visitation will continue from 9:00am to 10:00am, Friday, August 16, 2024, followed by interment at 12:30pm at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421.
