James Frank Miller, age 87, of Elgin, IL, passed away on July 6, 2023. He was born September 30, 1935 in Denmark, TN to his loving parents, Oscar and Eliza (Bond) Miller.
James graduated from Madison County School. He worked for a steel company for over 17 years.
He was an avid fisherman, and loved watching old western movies and also the Chicago Cubs.
As all who knew James would attest, he was a man of few words, but when asked about his health, there were three phrases he would often use. “I’m feeling sick-ta-fied.” “I’m feeling so-so.” and “I’m coming back that way.” Now take a moment and try to figure out what he was trying to say!
James was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Williams; brothers, Oscar Lee and Arthur D. Miller; sister, Callie Manns; daughter, Melissa Williams; and grandson, Marquette Scott.
He is survived by his children, Frank Miller, Mike (Elma) Miller, Jackie (Christopher) Upshaw, Charles Miller, Troy Miller, Aubrey Miller, and Michael Williams; sisters, Williette DeBerry and Earlene Miller; grandchildren, Chaqueela Miller, Shirley Miller, Latoya Miller, Kimberly Miller, James Scott, Barbara Miller, and Christian Tabron; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 11:30am, Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Rev. Willie Tate will be officiating.
Interment to follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
