James Kelly, age 68, of Elgin, IL, passed away on April 4, 2025. He was born December 21, 1956 in St. Charles, IL to his loving parents, James and Antoinette (née Dwan) Kelly.

James lived life like no one else. He loved the rugged West and living life off the grid on his own terms. He spent his life as an arborist, caring for trees and the natural environment. He loved California and spent many of his formative years there. He lived his life to his own accord and never looked back. He was a free spirit who was passionate about all kinds of animals, but especially dogs.  James dedicated his life to taking in strays and making them part of his family. His passion and dedication to his animals never wavered.  James loved a lot.

James is survived by Robert (Cindy) Kelly, Kristine Wake, Scott (Colleen) Campbell, Mark Kelly, Shannon Kelly, and his extended family who will forever miss his grit.  In our faith, we trust we will be together again.

The family will hold a memorial service this summer (date and time to be determined).

Interment will be private.
