James Otto Bacon Obituary

James Otto Bacon, age 69, of Elgin, IL, passed away on April 25, 2023. He was born May 9, 1953 in Oak Park, IL to his loving parents, Carl N. and Lydia Marie (née Geiseman) Bacon.

James and his wife Cheryl met in high school, and then reconnected later in life. They were happily married for 30 years.

James earned a double major bachelor’s degree in English and Political Science from Northern Illinois University. He worked for a number of years as an investment representative/broker before moving into a compliance officer roll. His last position was with Vision Investments.

James had a big heart, a wonderful smile, and a dry sense of humor. He enjoyed learning new things. He retired early and spent many happy hours scuba diving, snorkeling, camping, reading, and gardening.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, and everyone who knew him; they are comforted that he is with God and is no longer in pain.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lydia Bacon; brother, David Bacon; and sister, Lydia Hickenbottom. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Bacon; son, James Daniel “J.D.” Bacon; brother, Reverend Paul Bacon; and sister, Anna M. Bacon.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 340 Grand Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120. Pastor Carol Book will be officiating.
