Habtom Russom Tesfay, age 58, of Chicago, IL, passed away on January 7, 2022. He was born March 13, 1963 in Eritrea to his loving parents, Russom Tesfazgi and Tsegeweni Berhane.

Habtom went to a trade school, then worked as a construction worker and in transportation.

Habtom met Thelma Jones in Chicago and they were married for 16 years before divorcing. Together they raised one daughter.

Habtom was smart, loving, and kindhearted. He enjoyed reading and fixing things.

Habtom is survived by his daughter, Siknight Tesfay; ex-wife, Thelma Tesfay; parents, Russom Tesfazgi and Tsegeweni Berhane; siblings, Mussie Tesfay and Meheret Tesfay; grandchildren, Ya’Jae Tesfay, Ya’Myah Tesfay-Ellis, and Za’Riah Tesfay-Ellis; and nieces, Haban Andemariam and Astar Andemariam.

Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 12:00pm, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Rev. Yohanes G. Negassi will be officiating.
