Darlene Mae Perfors

Darlene Mae Perfors, age 86, of Elgin, IL, passed away on March 27, 2023. She was born June 4, 1936 in Elgin, IL to her loving parents, Ferd and Florence (née Bargholz) Dickhaut.

Darlene was married to Clarence Perfors for 24 years before his passing in 1980. She worked at Sherman Hospital from the early 1980’s until she retired in 2001.

Darlene loved baking, sewing, flower gardens, playing cards, and camping and traveling. She loved to cook meals for her family, and bake goodies for family and friends.

Darlene made her children and grandchildren feel special with a phone call on their birthday to sing “Happy Birthday.” Everyone looked forward to it each year. For her children’s birthdays, she would make them their favorite dinner, and invite the family over to celebrate. For her grandchildren, during their birthday month she would have them spend the night so she could give them special time with grandma, and take them to Ray’s restaurant for breakfast the next morning.  They usually ordered Mickey Mouse pancakes and hot chocolate and Ray’s would play the “Happy Birthday” song for them, with everyone singing along. Sometimes the family would also meet them there for breakfast.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Perfors; daughters, Ellen Miller and Jennie Perfors; and son, Roger Perfors. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Kevin) Porter; son-in-law, Tony Miller; daughter-in-law, Janice Perfors; sister, Shirley Lawrence; brother, Charles Dickhaut; grandchildren, Andrew Miller, Lace Perfors, Lisa Bruno, Joshua Smith, and Kelly Porter; and nephew, Dale Simpon.

Visitation will be 10:30am until funeral service at 12:00pm, Monday, April 3, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.  Vicar Andrea Delaney will be officiating.

Interment to follow at Dundee Township East Cemetery, 420 Dundee Avenue, East Dundee, IL 60118.
