Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Hendler, age 66, of Elgin, IL, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, July 18, 2022. She was born July 11, 1956 in Dolton, IL to her loving parents, Michael and Mary Ann (née Haase) DeFrancesco of Chicago, IL.
Cindy was a graduate of Bloom High School, Class of 1974. She had numerous jobs over the years and loved working hard for her family.
Cindy met Bill in high school and they were married in 1974. They would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary next month. They first lived in Hallandale, FL, then moved to Crete, IL, before settling in Elgin, IL in 1988.
Cindy enjoyed several hobbies, including photography, sewing, and quilting. Her home is decorated with many of her landscape and floral photos. Cindy also loved Christmas and decorating her home for the holidays with her son Brian, who continues the tradition.
Once her parents left Chicago for Las Vegas, Cindy became the matriarch for hosting the holidays and keeping the tradition alive. Cindy also had an affinity for the Peanuts cartoons and West Highland White Terriers, with their prior Westie even being named Snoopy.
Cindy is preceded in death by her father, Michael DeFrancesco. She is survived by her husband, William Hendler; and son Brian (Emily) Hendler and grandson Michael, all of McHenry, IL. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Ann DeFrancesco of Henderson, NV; mother-in-law, Anne Hendler of West Chicago, IL; siblings, Ellie (Kenny) Frey, Nicholas (Sandy) DeFrancesco, Michael DeFrancesco, and Deborah DeFrancesco; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.
Mourners are encouraged to review the funeral home COVID-19 public health policies ahead of time.
Interment will be private.
