Carol Virginia Francis, age 79, of Elgin, IL, passed away on September 2, 2025. She was born July 15, 1946 in Omaha, NE to her loving parents, Byron and Virginia (née Linstrom) Francis.

Raised in Omaha, Carol pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Nebraska, and a Master's in Education at Northern Illinois University. She went on to share her love and passion of knowledge as a teacher in Illinois, inspiring countless students with her patience, creativity, and commitment to their success.

For almost 40 years, Carol shared her life with her devoted partner, David Gamble. Together, they built a life full of love, companionship, and mutual respect.

Carol’s talents and interests reached far beyond the classroom. She was a gifted basket weaver, a dedicated art educator, and even a licensed pilot. She also gave her time and leadership to Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for women educators, serving as chapter president and advocating for women’s education.

She will be remembered for her spirit, her adventurous curiosity, and the countless ways she uplifted those around her.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donald Francis, and beloved partner, David Gamble. She is survived by her nephews, Christopher (Elisabeth) Francis and Ian (Shannon) Francis; and grandniece, Freyja Francis; as well as her partner’s family, including his sister, Monica Gentile, and Kathy Gentile, his niece.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00am to 3:00pm, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Interment will be at the Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
