Brett G. Hirschi, age 69, passed away on March 31, 2023, in Temacula, California. Born on July 21, 1954, in Weisbaden, Germany, Brett was a cherished individual known for his deep love for nature, animals, and art.
Brett's journey through life was as colorful and diverse as his interests. He spent his early education at Elsinore Elementary and Elsinore High School in California. Brett's career was a testament to his adventurous spirit, having traveled with a circus around the United States and worked several years in Africa. Later, he settled in Anza, California, where he excelled as a model and set designer in Hollywood. His passion for American Indian pottery enriched his life as a lifelong artist and collector.
A loving partner of Stephen Craig Blackwell, Brett is survived by Jeffrey D. Blackwell and his partner Maija Kemper. He was preceded in death by his father Melville Hirschi (1922-2001), mother Gena Higbee-Hirschi (1923-2005), and brothers Melville Yance Hirschi (1943-2008) and Courtland Hirschi (1949-1992).
Brett found his place of worship in the beauty of nature, often surrounded by his beloved pets, including several cats and dogs, and his horse Daisy who was his love of life for 29 years.
Brett's life was a vivid tapestry of love, art, and adventure, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A service to celebrate Brett’s and Steve’s lives will be held at 12:00pm, Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Rev. Tim Perry will be officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and share in the remembrance of a life well-lived.
Interment will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
