Betty Joan Cotler, age 98, of Elgin, IL, passed away on December 12, 2023. She was born October 9, 1925 in Chicago, IL to her loving mother, Doris Shepherd.

Betty graduated from Senn High School. She worked as a medical secretary at Weiss Hospital for many years.

Betty and her husband, Jerome, were married for over 50 years, and together they raised two children.

Betty was an extremely caring person; she was kind and would do anything she could to help others. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed puzzles, Broadway shows, and movies. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family loved listening as she shared stories of her childhood.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother; and husband, Jerome Cotler. She is survived by her children, Nancy (James) Vaughn and Richard (Gail) Cotler; honorary son, Phil Guerra; grandchildren, Jamie, David, Margaret, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Louie, Oliver, Evelyn, and Cristina; and nieces, Nina and Laura Castle.

Visitation will be 3:00pm until funeral service at 6:30pm, Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Fr. Bruce Ludeke will be officiating.

Interment will be private.
