Anthony K. Johnson, age 55, of Elgin, IL, passed away on January 24, 2022. He was born September 1, 1966 in Delaware, OH to his loving parents, Terrance Johnson and Jayne DeGood.

Tony, born in Delaware, OH, grew up in nearby Marysville, OH. He moved to the Chicagoland area in the 1980’s.

Tony worked in customer service and IT; manning the help desk was his favorite.

Tony’s best friend and coworker, Greg, and his wife Barb enjoyed card games. They invited Tony to play, but they needed a fourth so Greg asked his neighbor, Amy Moore, to join them. Tony and Amy later married, and were married for 21 wonderful years.

The first thing people noticed about Tony was that he was a big guy. The second thing people noticed was that his heart was just as big. He was kind, funny, loving, sincere, and dedicated … and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Tony’s passion was traveling. , and recently completed a three week trip out west. His bucket list wish was to visit every state, and he had only three states left. He also loved going on cruises because it allowed him to visit multiple countries.

Some of his fondest travel memories were watching the sunset from above the clouds at Mt. Haleakala in Hawaii with Amy on their honeymoon, being caught in a snowstorm in the Rocky Mountains, and being engulfed by a passing cloud high up in the Smokey Mountains.

But the most important thing to Tony, above all else, was family and friends, particularly his three grandchildren. He would like everyone to know just how special they were to him.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Terry Johnson; mother, Jayne (née DeGood) Overfield; and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Amy (née Moore) Johnson; children, John (Vanessa) Krenz and Regina Krenz; brother, Joe (Amy) Balderson; and grandchildren, Delilah, Grayson, and Landon Krenz.

Visitation will be 4:00pm until funeral service at 7:00pm, Friday, February 4, 2022 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Rev. Tim Perry will be officiating.

Mourners are encouraged to review the funeral home COVID-19 public health policies ahead of time.
