Westmore Mortimer, age 61, of Nassau, Bahamas, passed away on July 3, 2015 at Swedish-American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. He was born in Nassau to the loving parents of Alice and Wendell Mortimer Sr.
Westmore was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loving uncle and brother, and a good son. He graduated from Florida International University and began his 25-year career with the Bahamas tourist office shortly afterwards. Westmore was a phenomenal representative for his country, enthusiastically promoting it and it’s people to the world. He thoroughly enjoyed his job, and looked forward to going to work every day.
Westmore was a man with a big heart, always concerned about the welfare of others. This was embodied in his efforts to be a leader in the fight to end hunger. In 2004, Westmore retired from the Bahamas Tourist office, going on to work for Ashley Home Furniture. He became a United States citizen in 2012, proudly embracing America and its culture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell John Mortimer Sr. and Alice Gloria (nee Butler) Mortimer, and uncle Errol Butler.
Westmore is survived by his wife, Ellen; children, Westmore Devonne, Leron Lavado, Raquel (Jason) Mortimer-Sawyer, Jason (Leticia), Jasmine (Jermaine) Mortimer-Dawkins, Shawn, Desiree, and Brittne; his brothers, Anthony (Geneva). Wendell “Dave” (Ruth), Kendell, Craig (Sandra), and Gary (Daphne); his sisters, Rosebud (Leonard Sr.) Mortimer-Johhnson and Bridget Mortimer-Salako; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. his aunt, Gertrude Ferguson

A funeral is tentatively planned for 11:00a.m. on July 24, 2015, 2015 at Baptist Bible Church, Solider Road and Old Trail, Nassau, N.P., Bahamas. Interment to follow at Lake View Crematory.
