Steven William Prahl, age 37, of Streamwood, IL, was called home by his Almighty God on August 23, 2021. He was born May 23, 1984 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, Gregory and Darcel Prahl (née Bensinger).

Steven was a genuinely kind soul who had many friends he loved dearly. He never judged anyone, but accepted them as they were. He loved dogs, too, especially his own, Shelley and Vana (named after his favorite band, Nirvana).

Steven enjoyed simple pleasures such as playing Frisbee golf or fantasy football, watching comedians, and working on cars. He also enjoyed collecting things, and studying history and religion. He had a deep passion for God.

Steven’s family has wonderful memories of time spent with him on vacations and at family events. He was very organized and loved fixing things, and would often help his parents fix things around the house, or help his dad with his cars. A simple pleasure was having a cold beer and a cigar on the patio while hanging out with mom and dad; a frequent topic of conversation was that one day he’d buy a motorcycle so that he and his dad could go on a father-son trip on their bikes.

The true love of Steven’s life was a wonderful young lady named Vanessa Tobey. She passed away in 2010, but he never stopped loving her!

Steven loved with an unequivocal fierceness; his hugs were tight and meaningful every time. Those tight hugs and his big, infectious laugh will be missed by all!

Steven was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Gail Prahl; maternal grandmother, Lorraine Cassidy; and uncle, Greg Boller. He is survived by his parents, Gregory and Darcel Prahl; sister, Andrea (Jason) Swiatowiec; nephew, Evan Swiatowiec; grandfathers, George Bensinger, and Mark Cassidy; aunts and uncles, Daryl and Robert Welsch, Martin and Olga Prahl, Deborah Boller, and August Petroschuk; and many beloved cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 12:00pm, Friday, September 10, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church, 780 S. Bartlett Road, Streamwood, IL 60107. Pastor Paul Cutler will be officiating.

Interment will be private.

Final arrangements entrusted to Symonds-Madison Funeral Home. For more information, call 847-741-1128 or visit www.symondsmadison.com.

I cannot express just how sad your passing has made us all.

You always made me and everyone else feel so welcome, like you knew us for years and would always be there if anyone needed anything at anytime.

I actually went to the church thinking the services were today and it was only after I got there that I realized that I got the date wrong.

I bet Steve is laughing about that one.

I hope you get to listen to all the Nirvana songs and play with your dogs and see your loved ones.

    Goodbye Steve.

    See you around.
