Shalene Rae Lopez, age 61, of Elgin, passed away at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in Elgin on January 25, 1956 to her loving parents, Bobbie and Melba Perry (nee Harris).
Shalene graduated from Larkin High School, Class of 1973. She was a dedicated and hard worker, employed by Joseph Spiess Co. department store, the Hemmens, and for Elgin Community College.
She met the love of her life, Israel, on a blind date arranged by close friends. The two wed and shared 43 wonderful years of marriage together, raising two sons.
Loved ones will remember Shalene’s wonderful sense of humor and unforgettable laugh that could be heard across the room. She was a warm and faithful friend, beloved by all.
Music always filled her house, and her love for music was spread to her children and grandchildren. She played piano and organ at Assembly of God Church in Elgin for many years. In her spare time, Shalene was also an experienced and excellent cook.
Shalene was preceded in death by her father, Bobbie Perry.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Israel Lopez; her sons Chad (Heather) and Adam (Heather) Lopez; mother Melba Perry; and grandchildren Kaitlynn, Christopher, Nikki, Caleb, Issabelle, Nicole, and Julie Lopez.
A Celebration of Life will be held 5:00 – 9:00p.m. with service at 8:30p.m. September 7, 2017 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St, Elgin IL 60120, Rev. Tim Perry officiating. Interment will be private.
