Seferino Martinez Jr. passed away on April 14, 2017 at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL. Seferino was born January 10, 1937 in La Chona, Mexico to his loving parents, Zeferino Martinez and Maria Nuncia.
Seferino graduated from Weslaco High School in Weslaco, TX. He worked as a machine operator for Chicago-Rawhide and as a general laborer.
He married to Paula Martinez for 28 years and together they raised seven children. Family will remember him as a wonderful father, husband, brother and grandfather. Seferino was a humble, peaceful man with a big heart. He was caring, lovable and full of life. Seferino was always warm and kind, and he called everyone his friend.
He responded to many nicknames, including, Marty, Tex-Mex, Big Sefe and Don Seferio. He told his children he was “Your #1 Dad Sefe.” His favorite saying was “No fumo, No tomo, No me duele nada. I’M O.K.!”
In his free time, Seferino enjoyed watching El Chavo, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Sanford and Son on television. He was also a true Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed Bingo, watching westerns and dancing. Seferino’s favorite restaurant was McDonald’s, he treasured vanilla milkshakes and coffee. His favorite candy bar was Milky Way.
Seferino was preceded in death by his first child, daughter Yolanda; grandchildren Eduardo Fernando and James Luis; and his siblings, Jesus, Severiana, and Refugio.
Seferino is survived by his former wife, Paula Martinez; his children, Fernando Seferino, Irma, Bertha Alicia “Letty”, Corina, Yolanda, and Maria Nuncia; grandchildren Crystal Lee, Sergio, Fernando Emilio, Julian Jacob, Viviana, Victor, Valentin, Valeria, Marcos Enrique, Luis Daniel, Camilo Sancho, Michaela, Patricia, Jorge Jr., Andres Jr., Juana Iris, Adrian Israel, Ixcaly Abigail, Sandra Alicia, Jasmine, Elizabeth and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Aiden Ivan Jr., Jaylean Samarah, Santos Neymar, Mia Isabella, Nevach, Natalie Jazzlyn, Arial Eliana, Juliana, Nathan Eduardo, Elyan, Victoria Marie and Michael James; siblings Refugio (Ulfida), Alfredo (Antonia), Avelina (Guadalupe), and Adelardo (Socorro).
Visitation will be 5:00p.m. – 9:00p.m. with prayers at 7:00p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St, Elgin, IL 60120. Funeral service will be 11:00a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. Monica Parish, 90 S. Kennedy Dr, Carpentersville, IL 60110. Interment to follow at Dundee Township Cemetery-East, 420 Dundee Avenue, Dundee, IL 60118.
