Ronald “Ron” George Olson passed away February 6, 2020 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL. He was born in Chicago on March 25, 1936 to his parents, Willie and Mary Olson (nee Theis).

Ron served his country in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer with Company C, 34thEngineering Battalion from 1959 to 1961.

During his later years, he resided in Elgin, most recently at Avantara Elgin.

Ron was known for his witty conversation and loved to cook.  He was a good cook and shared with his neighbors and friends quite a few dishes including Chicken Caccitore.

Ron had a kind fondness and compassion for everyone he met at the Eaton’s Redwood Inn, where he was a regular.  He also loved to dance with the ladies when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin or other 50s and 60s music came on. He was lucky at the video games he loved to play at Redwood, especially “Hot Shot.” He relied on a few good friends to ensure that he made it home safely from Redwood on occasion and to take him to the grocery store.

Ron was also a talented pool player, despite the onset of Parkinson’s disease in early 2008.

Ron played the same numbers on the Illinois Lottery almost everyday, requiring the Seller to issue separate tickets for .50 cents straight and .50 cents box, for numerous tickets so he would be able to cash them locally as he wished and not have to go to downtown Des Plaines.

Ron was a big Bears football enthusiast, and he loved watching NFL every season.  He also enjoyed watching the races at Arlington Park.

Ron’s best buddy, who used to live in his building, was Alan Wudi, a WWII B-2 Bomber Pilot. The two lost touch in 2015 when Alan moved away.

Ron was preceded in death by his only child and best friend, Cyndi Mundro; and his son-in-law, David Mundro.

Ron is survived by his friend, Tammy Newsome. At this time, no surviving family has been located.
